I hadn't intended it to be as big as it is, but this is my work-in-process 1:1 diorama:

The floor grate, bottom third of the wall and the railing are all metal bits from the recycling bin at my work. I need to continue the wall up to the ceiling obviously, and clear out some of the non-Aliens junk that's currently in the shot. Also the airlock release panel needs to go up on the wall.

I really wanted a "realistic" way to display the various props, so this is my attempt at that.

Thanks folks! I took the photo Yesterday but then I couldn't get it to upload, so Nocturnus beat me to it with the display posts :)

Frank: I was just thinking about this making a pretty sweet "Kickstarter pitch video" backdrop!

Do you think I should paint the corrugated metal (i.e. the bottom third of the wall) the same dark grey as the upper part? The areas of the back wall that are showing will most likely be painted that same grey, so would it be good for the whole thing to match or is the two-tone thing a nice contrast?

Here's how I made the form that my armour is displayed on:

The photo is a little grainy, but if you look close you can spot a locker widget by Moosh, a Beyerdynamic mic clone by Marsattacks, a lot of Matt Noble goodies, Spat goodies all over the place (motion tracker, binoculars, welder, camo, etc.), a grenade box (with labels from Darren), a can of Aspen Beer, and much more.

I'm so thankful for this amazing community!

Thanks Sarge! So many folks on here have helped me realize this dream, yourself included! I forgot to mention the Chef shoulder pauldrons, Bigbisont shoulder tabs, Service C cap from Magnus, coin from Dom, and outstanding Dropship helmet greeblies from Stephen210.
Next I need to get my metal breastplate finished...

Hahaha sorry mate I only stuck the Marine on him as he had another uniform on him and I needed that for a con this weekend, it wernt fair to leave him naked its cold over here :D Im really liking your set up I wish I had the room to do more

The Aspen Beer is a vintage poptop can from the 70's with a label I got either on the RPF or Propsummit printed out and glued on. I have two, one open and one closed! I try to keep an eye out at junk shops etc., and snap them up if I find them. I can't quite justify buying an empy can off eBay, but I'm sure they're there too.

When I came in to work Yesterday this little puppy was waiting for me! Not as nice as Noble's find, but I'd say it's a pretty good floor option!

So my plan (if you'll refer back to the first picture) is to take the metal grate I was using for a floor and make it the ceiling instead. It's lightweight so it shouldn't be a problem getting it secured, and I think it will really help sell the overall look.

The only downside is that the added height of the pallet makes the dummy too tall to wear the helmet. For the time being I've replaced it with my Gorman lid and Racal headset, but once the big pieces are done being moved around I'll see if I can adjust the dummy so that he can wear the helmet again.

Then it's on to lighting...

Oh man, that is cool. Any way to cut down the bottom of the new pallet so it doesn't create a problem with your mannequin wearing the helmet?

Ooh, interesting idea DSB! If I could then I'd actually have two floor panels as they are the same on each side. I don't know how I'd split it though, the thing is a beast.

I'm thinking I can use this little bit of set for publicity/continuity shots of the actors in costume so they're immersed in the fictional world (as opposed to standing in my kitchen or something).

The back wall still needs a lot of work, but I got the grate attached to the ceiling. I'll fill in above it with black cardstock and maybe some wires or conduit to make it more interesting.

I'm kicking around a bunch of options on how to tie this whole thing together better. I love the texture on those light grey corrugated panels, but I'm not sure they're the right fit in the end.
