The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Does anyone know of any lists of Aliens trivia anywhere. I have a few posted below, and found some here:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090605/trivia

http://www.moviemistakes.com/film40/trivia

http://www.avpgalaxy.net/website.php?ma ... ienstrivia

Feel free to add if you want...

Stan Winston of Stan Winston Studios was responsible for the film's creature effects, and constructed the original 1/4 scale rod puppet along with Winston Supervisor John Rosengrant, and their team of FX professionals.

Seated next to Stan Winston on a plane ride, Aliens director James Cameron helped design the now famous Predator Hunter creature seen in all three films.

Stan Winston won the 1986 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for his work on Aliens.

Lydecker (Acheron Colony Administrator) is an FX technique describing wire effects.

[AVP SPOILER] Aliens actors Lance Henricksen ("Bishop") and Bill Paxton ("Hudson") have both played characters who suffer the ultimate Sci-Fi screen death hat trick of: death by Alien, death by Predator AND, death by Terminator.

Aliens actors Michael Biehn ("Hicks") and Bill Paxton ("Hudson") have shared screen time in five films: Tombstone, The Terminator, Navy Seals, The Lords of Discipline, and of course, Aliens.

The Smartgunner team of Mark Rolston ("Drake") Jenette Goldstein ("Vasquez") have shared time in six Hollywood projects, Lethal Weapon 2, "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "24," "Alias," "E.R.," and Aliens.

The role of Lt. Ellen Ripley was originally planned for Meryl Streep.

The mechanism used to make the face-huggers scuttle about in the Med lab came from one of the "flying piranhas" in one of Cameron's earlier movies, Piranha II: The Spawning (1981). It took nine people on Stan Winston's team to make the facehugger work: one person for each leg, and one for the tail.

One of the Facehugger builders on Aliens was Stephen Norrington, who went on to direct Blade and The League of Extraordinary Gentleman.

In Aliens, Michael Biehn's character Hicks gets bitten on the hand by Newt (Carrie Henn). This happens to him in every James Cameron movie he's in: The Abyss, and The Terminator.

Both the Nostromo and the Sulaco have perpetual motion devices on the tables of their cafeterias.

The names Gorman, Hudson, Hicks and Frost were taken from the book, "A Bridge Too Far" by Cornelius Ryan (he also wrote "The Longest Day").

Aliens gave the planetoid from the first film a more formal nomenclature, "LV-426," and its name, "Acheron." In Greek mythology, Acheron is the river of woe and pain, in the underworld land of the damned.

Alien director Ridley Scott's original casting choice for the actor to play Captain Dallas was Harrison Ford, who had just finished playing Han Solo in Star Wars. Although Ford was not cast, he went on to star in Scott's next film, Blade Runner.

Tks!

Look, we've been doing it wrong;
Quote:
The SFX department made the M-41a Pulse rifle out of a Thompson sub-machine gun with a Franchi-SPAS 12 shotgun stuck underneath, and was put into a fibreglass shell to make it look futuristic. Because they had to cut off the handle and a large portion of the barrel off of the SPAS 12, it could only carry a maximum of 3 shells.
:D

However, this is just hi-larious;
Quote:
The word "f**k" is used 25 times in the film, 18 of them are spoken by Hudson!!!

This one:
Quote:

Should probably be split into two items, as (I think) they refer to the 'floor walking' version:
Quote:
The mechanism used to make the face-huggers scuttle about in the Med lab came from one of the "flying piranhas" in one of Cameron's earlier movies, Piranha II: The Spawning (1981).

and then the 'grabbing at Ripley' version:
Quote:
It took nine people on Stan Winston's team to make the facehugger work: one person for each leg, and one for the tail.

Guys, we've been wearing the wrong camo the entire time.

I used to like these Trivias. I think there are some more around unless they have been deleted due to too many incorrect statements.

Frog and leaf?
Frog leaf is a pattern of dark blotches or figures (frogs) on irregular background of round or torn Rorschach inkblots (leafs). Definitely not the smaller desert "wood land" pattern as the one used in the film.

Anyway Trivias like these are fun and informative but I do feel that some of the statements actually don't carry enough detail to be read as 100% reliable. Some of the statements can even be "cleaned up" as there are more precise details and facts around now then it was at the time of the writing of the Trivias. A list of sources would also have been fine.

you know ive prob read these type of trivia things a dozen times over the last 15 years about the film, and for some reason, a few of these are just NOW clicking.

ive always wondered where the "frog and leaf" thing came from. The only mention ive ever seen in any official military documents is " ERDL (experimental research and development laboratories) camouflage pattern, Types I & II "

This is pale in comparison compared to how many times I say it during Dragon Con.

I remember reading that after they filmed Aliens they left the hive set largely untouched. Then some four years later the crew for Batman came in to use that set... and found the hive still intact. Can you imagine finding that set, realizing what it is, and then walking into that place?!?! It must have been an incredible experience. 8)

And just to nitpick on behalf of Hudson, Bill Paxton is the only actor to be killed by a Terminator, an Alien, and a Predator. Lance was playing an android when he was cut in half by the Queen. So...
1. Androids can't 'die'
2. He really didn't 'die' anyways; he was still functioning.
(Believe me, I have re-hashed this discussion MANY times with my friends!)

Wanna have it one more time?

If you want to be really picky, Hudson didn't "die" at the hands of a Xeno (as far as what we saw on screen). Most likely he was taken to the hive as a host like Burke. He was killed by the detonation of the atmposhere processor.

But I will give you that Bishop was still "functioning" at the end of "Aliens". 8)

That all depends on the gestation time you follow... the believable "Alien" time of the ridiculously short "AVP" time.

Game on!

Maybe, maybe not. I think that aliens will kill hosts that they deem are too dangerous for impregnation. They were able to snag Dietrich and Apone unawares, but the rest of the Marines that didn't make it out probably fought back as best they could, and were subsequently killed.

Same with Hudson.

He was still firing as he was dragged under. I think that he bought it at the 'hands' of some alien jaws soon after. You know that he would be struggling like a mother f*cker because he was already panicked and he knew what was in store for him.

So there!

Talk about a necro bump - I could REALLY use some new A L I E N (first movie only) and Prometheus trivia questions if you guys have any fun ones? In universe type of stuff, like, "What year did the Nostromo mission take place?" "Who was the first officer of the Nostromo? - things like that...

Thanks in advance!

Who played Kane before John Hurt, and why was he recasted?

On the very first day of shooting, Scott noticed Jon Finch (Kane 1.0) didn't look well (but didn't say anything because he thought "Finch was just naturally pale"). Finally, Scott asked how he was and Finch said "Not well"; medics were called over and the actor had to be carried out and taken to the hospital. It turned out Finch had an extreme case of diabetes--he was out of the film. At lunch time, Scott reconvened with his team and they tried to figure out who they could get. As it turned out their first choice for Kane, John Hurt, was in London. Hurt relayed that he had previously been asked to do the film but was unavailable, scheduled to do a film in South Africa. Strangely, he wasn't allowed to enter the country. Hurt said he believed he was confused with actor, John Heard, who was (put on a list as) undesired because he disagreed with apartheid (Hurt: "Well, none of us do."). Hurt came back home. When they met, Scott pitched the film to Hurt until 12 at night...the actor was on set at 7 a.m. the next morning.
