In all fairness to them, there is the issue of likeness. From what I remember a lot of the actors wont allow it.

While the likeness issue is certainly an obstacle, it isn't as open-and-shut as actors 'not allowing it'. They simply won't allow it for free and NECA doesn't want to pay them.

I have no clue what page it was much earlier in this thread, but someone posted a twitter exchange where randy claimed they "can't get" Jeanette Goldstein when shooting down the idea of a Vasquez figure. Via a follow up twitter exchange from fans directly to Jeanette, she said she would love to be involved but no one from NECA has ever contacted her.

Al Matthews was interviewed after the Hot Toys figures came out and proclaimed that he would "love" to have a figure made of him, so long as it actually looks like him and he is compensated (Hot toys obviously did not compensate him and they changed the face on purpose so as not to be sued by him).

So to me, this has nothing to do with actors being against figures. They are simply against loaning out their faces for free and NECA has no desire to compensate the talent. Why would they when they can do all the creatures and repaints they want without any extra fees? Not saying I don't 'get' the business model. Just saying I think it is very poor form for NECA to pass the buck and simply put the blame on the actors.

Not to mention charging us for the same figures twice just to get Hicks and Hudson with helmets.

Still, they promised us at least a Smartgunner for Series 8 or 9, didn't they? It would be a terrible shame if that was the extent of the Marine figures they released this year, considering it's the 30th anniversary. With all the uniform and body variation between Drake, Vasquez, Gorman, Apone, Wierzbowski, Frost, Crowe, Dietrich, Spunkmeyer and Ferro, the customizing possibilities would be virtually endless.

Ah, fair enough. I didn't realize all that'd been the case.

Consider the price point for these figures.

There's not a lot of royalty dough there. (factory,neca,retailer,fox)


Now hot toys on the other hand....

I really want a plain old 1/6 scale "aliens " 1986 warrior . Is that too much to ask ? No more big chaps in 20 million different scales lol and of course a smart gunner

Randy has said they wouldn't do another wave without any Aliens so I'm guessing for Series 8 we'll have Commando/Dog Handler, a reissue of the Dog Alien and either bald Ripley or Michael Bishop. They have the likeness for both so that seems most obvious!

I am really keen to see what Kenner treats they have cooked up though!

Supposedly, they're claiming that they won't be doing more than two new Marines this year.

Hell i must be an optimist because I hear that news and think "2 marines this year!? Awesome!"
